BUILDING DIVISION OVERVIEW
New Service offered:
The City of SeaTac is now offering the
issuance of selected permits online through MyBuildingPermit.com.
MyBuildingPermit.com is a service of the eCityGov Alliance that provides for
issuance of limited scope, over the counter type permits for electrical, low
voltage, mechanical, plumbing and re-roof permits.
MyBuildingPermit.com is currently comprised of 17 jurisdictions throughout King,
Pierce and Snohomish counties.
Codes Adopted:
The
2006 International Codes went into effect on July1st, 2007.
Every permit submitted will have to be designed in reference to the
appropriate codes. The following is
a list of the codes that the City has adopted (as provided in the table below)
and as mandated by the State of Washington.
Please review the City of SeaTac Municipal Code Title 13 (Buildings and
Construction) for all local amendments and code information. Furthermore,
you will need to reference the amendments by the State Building Code Council
located in the Washington Administrative Code. Please contact the Building
Division at 206-973-4750
if you have any questions and or concerns regarding the codes
Permits:
The Building Division is responsible for
processing and administering permits for all types of construction projects
within the City. The following are
some examples of permits administered by the Building Division; building,
plumbing, mechanical, electrical, sign, fire suppression, and fuel storage
tanks.
Plan Review:
Larger
construction projects for permit submittals typically require a plan review by
more than one City department. As part of the review
process, the Building Division routes the permit submittal to the
appropriate City department for review.
After all City departments have completed their review, the Building Division
will either issue the permit or send a comment letter to the applicant. The
comment letter will explain what changes or corrections are necessary before the
plans can be approved.
Inspections:
After the plans are approved, the Building
Division will inform the applicant that their permit is ready to be picked up.
After the permit is issued, the applicant may begin construction of their
project. There is a list of
inspections located on the back of each permit, but not all of the inspections
listed will pertain to every project (this maybe noted on the permit for a
specific project). As a general rule, no work shall be covered until approved by
a City Inspector. Inspections must
be requested 24 hours in advance by calling the City’s Inspection Line at
206.973.4764.
Code Enforcement:
The
Building Division also contains a Code
Enforcement branch. This branch enforces other City codes such as: substandard housing, property
maintenance, zoning requirements, land use, junk automobiles, residential
parking violations, signs, and unlicensed businesses. Code enforcement
action may be initiated by an officer or a complaint by a local citizen. If
you have questions for code enforcement violations or to file a complaint,
please call 206.973.4750.
You may fill out a Request
for Action form (complaint form) online or
in person in order to initiate a code enforcement action.
