Pickleball Tournament

This fun competitive tournament is open to all players receiving ranking points in the USAPA. All ability levels are welcome. Four courts available with ample viewing space. New addition for this year’s event, will be the Friday night youth tournament. This should be a fun and challenging experience for all skill levels. More information will be available closer to the tournament date.

Drop-In Ping Pong
Ping Pong is one of the world’s most popular activities. This fall we will be setting out a couple tables for those of you who want to come and play during the cold days of fall and winter. Bring your own paddle, or borrow one of ours, but don’t be left at ‘fault’ when you can be volleying here Wednesday afternoons.

Indoor Tennis (By Reservation)
For the die-hard tennis player that needs to hit the ball around during the winter, or for the novice who just wants to learn a new sport, this new offering may be for you. The gym at the SeaTac Community Center will be transformed into a mock tennis court this November. To make it more ‘gym’ friendly, we’ll provide low compression balls and have a few rackets if you need to borrow one. This will be by reservation only and the dimensions of the court or height of the net will not be regulation. This is a fun way to stay active, practice your swing, or just burn energy during the wet, cold winter.

Fitness Maximizer
Take advantage of the maximum fitness program! Sign-up for any adult sport class and you can add a monthly weight room pass for just $7 per month.

Boot Camp
This class is a fun and easy way to accomplish your fitness goals. This cross training class is for both men and women, requires minimum coordination and is perfect for the beginner or the advanced exercise enthusiast. Great sport specific conditioning or general fitness. This class will combine strength and aerobic endurance conditioning. Bring an exercise mat.

Pump It Up - Group Strength Training
This barbell fitness program strengthens all major muscle groups in a fun setting with invigorating music. Using simple athletic moves: lunges, curls, squats, and presses you can boost your metabolism and tone muscles. The amazingly simple instruction approach is perfect for the beginner or the advanced exercise participant. Bring an exercise mat. Minimum of 8, maximum of 19 participants.

Archery 
Class participants will learn the basics of archery and a little history will be taught over the session. The emphasis will be on form and fun. This class is for longbow and recurve only. Please no compound bows. Equipment will be provided for participant use, however personal equipment may be used but only with the instructor’s permission.  Class starts at 7 p.m., all are welcome. Beginners will be given priority in the first hour but at least two lanes will be open to any advanced archer. Clean-up at 9:45 p.m. Minimum of 8 archers, maximum of 15. Minors with an adult allowed only with instructor approval.

Instructor Chris Konker has enjoyed the sport of archery since he was seven and would like to share the sport with you. Chris usually teaches from home in small groups but is excited by the opportunity to bring this art to a wider group at the community center.

Drop in Archery
The range will be open on an as available basis, dependant on the number enrolled in the advanced class. Compound bows are allowed using standard target points only. $6.00 drop-in fee per archer.  Range rules will be strictly enforced. Failure to follow the set rules will result is dismissal from class and from use of the range. Any and all fees paid will be forfeited.

Fencing
Learn the sport of Olympic fencing. In this class you will learn the basics of foil and saber. Whether for fun, exercise, or development as a discipline, this class will put you on the path to finding the swordsman in you. Tennis shoes and loose fitting clothing are required. Minimum of 4, maximum of 10 students per class.

Hatha Yoga
The consistent practice of Hatha Yoga’s various disciplines will add clarity, vitality, and focus to your life. The postures (asanas) and deep breathing (pranayams) in yoga help to combat stress, strain and fatigue. Through regular practice you will heighten your concentration, improve blood circulation, strengthen muscles and increase your mental and physical energy. Wear loose fitting clothing. Students are encouraged to bring their own exercise mat. Minimum of 10, maximum of 20 participants.

Karate
Traditional karate is a Japanese martial art. It is a lifetime activity that improves all aspects of physical fitness, promotes cognitive development and emotional stability. Karate improves self-image and self-control. Karate also teaches the value of discipline and personal defense strategies. Karate’s foundation is in self-defense not dueling or military engagement. Through training, students become more aware of the world around them. This awareness allows the karate practitioner to assess and avoid dangerous situations before physical confrontation takes place.

Classes are divided into two category’s, Beginners and Regular. Both classes are open to all age groups.  Parents that are interested are encouraged to train with their children in the Beginner session.  Adults wishing to start classes without children can attend the Regular session.

Tai Chi for Adults
The Traditional Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan is taught in this class. This is the most commonly practiced style. Pacing is uniformly slow throughout the form, with no variation in speed during transitions. Continuity, without break or pause, is the key. This class is for all ages, beginners to advanced. Students can improve their strength, coordination, posture, concentration, and general level of energy. There are many health benefits to the movements of Tai Chi Chuan. It improves balance, decreases falls, and improves circulation and the meridian system. It aids in memory, improves breathing, relieves stress, and improves joint movements. Minimum of 5, maximum of 15 students.

Adult Dance Classes
Belly Dance
Try your talent as a femme fatale (or just enjoy some great stretching and fun exercise) while learning history and basic steps of this exotic Middle Eastern dance form. Instructor "Shoshanna" teaches Egyptian, Arabic, and modified US Cabaret styles, including basic zil (finger cymbal) patterns at beginning to intermediate levels. Wear comfortable, cool clothing. Drop in fee for those under 15 years is $1.25 per visit, with instructor’s permission. Minimum of 1, maximum 12 participants.

Adult Recreation/Self Improvement
Adult, Child CPR/First Aid & AED
Learn how to recognize signals of a heart attack; provide CPR for an adult victim until EMS arrives. Learn how to recognize and care for children (ages 1 to 8 years) suffering from breathing and cardiac emergencies. The course also focuses on injury prevention and choking (conscious and unconscious). Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest and other breathing emergencies of an adult or a child victim. Learn life-saving techniques for serious bleeding, shock management, spinal injury, and other injuries. Successful completion of this 4½ hour course will result in a two year Adult, Child CPR, First Aid and AED certification.

This class, designed for those interested in trends in jewelry arts, is a great way to harness your creative juices! Learn how to create necklaces, bracelets and earrings, using various beads and patterns. Be a part of a growing group of jewelry-makers, and create beautiful pieces to add to your collection. Private Piano Lessons
Kevin Johnson has over a decade of experience teaching. A well-know musician in the Seattle area, he has worked with Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony and Chorale, Pacific Northwest Chamber Chorus among many other musical organizations.

Individual, 30 minute lessons catered to each student’s level. Lessons will emphasize musical theory, physical technique and different styles (classically based, but also including jazz and ethnic music.) Each week, students will be assigned pieces to play and practice at home. All are welcome to sign up, from beginners to advanced, both children and adults. Instruction times are to be arranged with the instructor.

If you wish not to have yours or your children’s photo taken in conjunction with our programs please notify any recreation staff member or your class instructor. Photos taken during Parks & Recreation activities are used in the promotion of future City programs.
