 Photogenesis
© Brian Goggin,
1999
Location: Gateway to North SeaTac
Park at the corner of S. 128th St. & 20th Ave.
S.
Goggins sculpture
presents an uplifting landmark for the inevitability of
change. His three antique Lampposts grow beside the
entry, creating a gateway marker into North SeaTac Park.
The Lampposts have wintry forged steel branches sprouting
from the "trunk": technology disguised as
organic growth. "Night-flower" globes glow on
top of the Lamppost trees, pulsing at different rates and
in multiple colors. The sculptures home is on the
border of a multicultural suburban neighborhood and an
unfolding park development, which was once virgin forest.
The village green, formerly blanketed with family
housing, is in a state of transition, like the sculpture
itself.
Photogenesis was
produced in partnership with the King County Public Art
Program and the City of SeaTac, with assistance from the
SeaTac Parks, Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee.
Goggin was selected through a nationally advertised open
competition, by a panel comprised of visual artists and
community advisors.
