Business Licensing

Welcome to the City of SeaTac. The City of SeaTac Municipal Code Section 5.05.020 requires that anyone conducting, maintaining, operating or engaging in any business within the City first obtain an annual business license for each business activity. Business licenses are issued on an April 1 to March 31 fiscal year, with renewals required by April 30 of each year. A business will fall within the following three categories:

In-City Business: The business operates in a facility located within City of SeaTac limits and is not a home occupation.
Home Occupation: The business operates in a residence located within City of SeaTac limits.
Out-of-City Business: The business is conducted within the City of SeaTac but a business facility is not located within the City. This category includes all contractors completing jobs within City limits.

The City’s annual business license fee is $35 per business activity, with limited exceptions for certain business activities as detailed in the City’s Schedule of Fees. The City’s acceptance of your application and fee does not constitute approval or authorization to conduct business in the City. Applications are reviewed and approval is required by several City departments before a business license can be issued by the Finance Department. Review and notification usually occurs within four weeks of the submission of all necessary materials.

To obtain your Washington State Business License and Unified Business Identifier (UBI) number contact the Department of Revenue (www.dor.wa.gov). Their general information number is 1.800.647.7706. City of SeaTac business licenses are not transferable and are issued for a specific location. If your business changes location or ownership, a new business license application must be submitted. For businesses with multiple locations within the City, a license is required at each location.
