The Code Enforcement staff has developed a new Neighborhood Grant Program. The program will provide resident groups with matching funds for neighborhood improvement projects. The City of SeaTac is committed to promoting and sustaining an environment that is responsive to resident involvement. The Neighborhood Grant Program was developed to build viable partnerships between the City and its residents. The intent of the program is to encourage the involvement of neighborhoods to work together towards a common goal. Some examples of potential grant programs are: identity signage for neighborhood entry points, curb side garbage clean up day, or landscaping of traffic islands. Neighbors working together to beautify their neighborhoods, the program will show people care about their neighborhood and may help in reducing local crime. The City Council has dedicated $30,000 a year for neighborhood projects. Projects are evaluated and selected based on a series of criteria including planning, neighborhood support, "sweat equity", need, final project maintenance, and benefit to the general public. All projects will be approved by the Council. Projects will be limited to $5,000, but the Council will retain the flexibility to approve larger projects. The Neighborhood Grant Program is a 50% matching grant. The citizens' portion of the grant is typically volunteer labor calculated at $18 per hour. Donated materials, supplies or a professional service is matched at a customary rate. The City Council is encouraging residents to participate in the program by working with their neighbors to develop and implement qualifying projects. A brochure, application or both are available at City Hall. Please contact Trudy Olson at 206.973.4763 for further information.
